Who built CommissionScope?

CommissionScope is built by Port & Starboard in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Jeff Werby and Lisa DeNoia are its co-founders. The product exists to take carrier statements from upload to payout file, instead of leaving that work in a spreadsheet.

How do I get started?

CommissionScope starts with a guided pilot. You share a few approved carrier statements and a CSV export of policies and producers, and we import them with you and show you the matches, calculated splits, and payout file. Do I need any special software?

CommissionScope runs in a web browser, so there is nothing to install. Policies, producers, and commissions move in and out by CSV. Direct agency management system connections are scoped as custom projects.

How long does setup take?

CommissionScope pilot setup is measured in statements, not months. A pilot begins with one scoped data import and a small set of approved statements. We validate each carrier format, the policy matches, and the payout review steps with you before rollout. The timeline depends on how many carriers you bring and how clean your policy data is.

What counts as a 'commission line'?

A commission line in CommissionScope is one policy commission entry on a carrier statement. A statement that lists 100 policy commissions is 100 lines, and each chargeback or adjustment counts as its own line. Lines are counted as processed, not by document, so a 10-page PDF with 500 entries is 500 lines.

What happens if I exceed my included lines?

Extra lines are billed at the per-line rate for your plan: $0.50 on Starter and $0.35 on Professional. Enterprise volume pricing is set in the agreement. Overage goes on the next invoice. Nothing is charged to a card automatically.

Can I change plans?

Yes. Tell us and the change takes effect on your next invoice. There is no self-service plan switcher.

Is there a trial or pilot?

There is no trial. Guided onboarding starts with a pilot: you bring approved sample statements, we help you upload them, and you review the extracted lines, policy matches, producer splits, and payout evidence with us before your subscription starts. Onboarding is $2,500 on Starter and starts at $5,000 on Professional. No live ACH setup is required.

What if I process 5,000 or more lines a month?

That is the Enterprise plan, which starts at $1,999 a month. Tell us your monthly line count, producer count, and carrier mix, and we quote volume pricing and onboarding to fit.

Which carriers do you support?

Accepted Answer

CommissionScope accepts PDF, CSV, and Excel statements, including scanned PDFs. A new carrier format is validated during the pilot before it is used for a payout decision, and the first statement from a carrier is reviewed by a person.

How accurate is the AI extraction?

Accepted Answer

Extraction quality depends on the carrier format, the document, and the policy data. Each extracted field has a confidence score, and low-confidence fields are flagged for review. An approved correction can be saved for that agency. It does not auto-accept a policy match.

Do you integrate with my AMS?

For EZLynx, CommissionScope automatically ingests a report export. We help you set up that report in EZLynx, and each policy in CommissionScope has a link that opens it in EZLynx by policy number. It is not a live sync. Other systems import and export policies, producers, and commissions by CSV. A live sync with an agency management system or accounting package is a custom project.

How do commission splits work?

CommissionScope calculates producer commission splits from commission programs you configure: percentage, tiered, carrier-specific, and producer-specific rates, plus dated producer rate overrides. Multi-producer splits and house accounts are supported. Each calculated split is reviewed before payout approval, and complex arrangements such as training splits are validated during the pilot.

Can you handle chargebacks?

Yes. CommissionScope keeps negative commission lines visible as chargebacks through matching, calculation, approval, and payout, so they reduce the right producer payout instead of disappearing into a spreadsheet total. Chargeback matching against your carrier data is validated during the pilot.

What reports can I generate?

CommissionScope includes standard exports for payout summaries, commission detail, unmatched lines, and audit evidence, plus a producer-by-line-of-business commission matrix. Custom reports and scheduled delivery are scoped with the account team.

Is my data secure?

Accepted Answer

Browser traffic uses TLS, and sensitive fields such as bank details are encrypted. Each agency only sees its own commission data. Sign-in is email and password, a Microsoft work account, Google, or a magic link, and accounts can require a second factor. A Microsoft sign-in matches an existing user and does not create an account. Changes are written to an audit log. CommissionScope does not claim SOC 2 or ISO certification until an independent audit is complete, and we say so in writing.

Do you comply with insurance regulations?

CommissionScope keeps an audit trail of who changed what and when, which is the record most agency compliance reviews ask for, and we provide implementation documentation for your review. CommissionScope does not sell insurance or move money, so licensing and trust-account obligations stay with your agency and your existing payroll process.

Can I export my data?

Yes. CommissionScope exports commission and payout data as CSV and payout statements as PDF at any time. For a complete account export or a deletion request, contact support and the team completes it for you during the pilot program.

Where is my data stored?

Accepted Answer

CommissionScope runs on Amazon Web Services in the US East (N. Virginia) region. Your commission records are on a database server inside a private network (VPC) with no public internet address. That server is backed up every day. We keep daily backups for 7 days, weekly backups for 5 weeks, and monthly backups for 3 months.

What support do you offer?

CommissionScope support is defined in your agreement: onboarding help, data-import guidance, and workflow review from people who have run insurance agency operations. Support is by email and ticket, and priority response terms are set per plan.

Yes. CommissionScope onboarding includes guided data import, first-statement review, commission program setup, and a walkthrough of the payout approval workflow. Additional team training and optimization reviews are scoped in Enterprise agreements.
